I know Freemasons do a lot for charity but how can I find out what Masons actually spend money on?
We publish our accounts for everyone to see and these accounts surprise many people when they see that Freemasons actually donate more money to charity in the UK than any other organization except the National Lottery. Every year Masons donate a million pounds to the Royal College of Surgeons for the betterment of mankind.
What do Freemasons really do?
Everyone knows that Freemasons have ceremonies and a lot of mystery seems to surround these. What I can tell you is that our ceremonies are designed to demonstrate useful lessons in life. You will have noticed that Kings Cross is proud that it supports various charities and indeed charity and helping others where possible form the cornerstone of Freemasonry. Every Chapter in the world disburses some money and time to helping those less fortunate than ourselves.
Absolutely not. The ranks of Freemasons are filled with people from every possible station in life. Any man who would like to become a better man and to help his fellow man where he can, should consider becoming a Freemason.
Through the ages the way of becoming a Freemason has changed like the wind. At one time you had to ask someone who was a Freemason. After the First World War, so many Freemasons had died in action that there would be signs hung outside pubs saying things like "Masons made Half a Crown." These days if you would like to know more about how to become a Freemason simply ask someone who is a Freemason to set the ball rolling.
